Hunger Pangs

I apologize for missing the PFW article last week. It seemed like before I knew it, Saturday was here - and I had missed it.

The sermon this week The Stewardship of Bread - Part 2 - "Hunger Pangs" will look at the familiar text from John 6:1-13 when a boy with 5 barley loaves and 2 small fish, places his resources in the hands of Jesus. Powerful things happen when we are willing to let go of what we have - and trust God for the increase.

All 4 gospel writers have some version of this story in their gospel - but the miracle is still God's doing.
I'll be sharing 2 illustrative true stories to help support the sermon - First: of a man named Mike, and his family attending an East Coast church in 1984 - and his complete trust of God's goodness.

Second: of a 17 year-old teenager named Katie who, though battling cancer, had an amazing thing happen to her.
(Obviously, neither Mike nor Katie who attend our church are the Mike and Katie in these 2 stories!)

As we consider the theme of stewardship this week - I ask the question of both you - and myself - where does a generous spirit come from? I hope to shed some light on that question Sunday.

Dave Ford will be singing "Does Jesus Care?" as part of our music this week.

Linda Ferrie will speak to Cable Hollow's little people during the Children's Moments.

Don't forget the Harvest Home Dinner this Saturday beginning at 6pm! Great food, wonderful fellowship, and fun-singing and entertainment will round out the evening. I look forward to spending time with each of you!

Harvest-time is here - and we have an abundance of blessings to be grateful for.

With great heart,
Pastor Jon
