Repentance and Comfort - Gifts of God
Fri, 12/05/2008 - 16:33 — adminI remember listing to my old 33LP records when I was a kid, and the Christmas albums were the most used.
Longing for the Light
Thu, 11/27/2008 - 14:45 — adminAs I sit at my computer writing this week's PFW, it is Thanksgiving morning. The kitchen is bustling with aromas and activity reminiscent of days of my childhood. Snow has blanketed the landscape as I look out the windows.
Thanksgiving Attitudes
Fri, 11/21/2008 - 14:29 — adminNovember 23 is the last Sunday in the Church calendar. It is typically given the designation of "Christ the King Sunday". The long post-Pentecost season ends this week. Next Sunday - November 30 - is the beginning of a new Church year with the Advent Season. Sandwiched between Christ the King Sunday, and the First Sunday of Advent, is the celebration of Thanksgiving. My sermon this week is titled "Thanksgiving Attitudes". Gratitude is an attitude of the heart.
Seacow Stewardship
Fri, 11/14/2008 - 18:49 — adminOur third, and final week of the Stewardship series of sermons will have Dr. David Clifford bringing the message he has titled "Seacow Stewardship". With readings from Exodus, David shares a peculiar approach to the "year-in and year-out" topic of Stewardship. David's winsome style and God-given gifts of presentation is sure to inspire. Please be in prayer for him as God uses him for the glory of God.
Hunger Pangs
Fri, 11/07/2008 - 02:33 — adminI apologize for missing the PFW article last week. It seemed like before I knew it, Saturday was here - and I had missed it.
The sermon this week The Stewardship of Bread - Part 2 - "Hunger Pangs" will look at the familiar text from John 6:1-13 when a boy with 5 barley loaves and 2 small fish, places his resources in the hands of Jesus. Powerful things happen when we are willing to let go of what we have - and trust God for the increase.
All 4 gospel writers have some version of this story in their gospel - but the miracle is still God's doing.
Love Songs
Fri, 10/24/2008 - 13:16 — adminWe will be reading from Leviticus 19:9-18 for our first lesson, and Matthew 22:34-46 for our sermon lesson on this, the 24th Sunday after Pentecost. The setting is another controversy the Pharisees are creating in a long line of conflicts aimed at tripping up Jesus in some detail, or theological teaching. As you can imagine - it doesn't work - again. Jesus knows the law that the Pharisees think they adhere to so perfectly. When questioned about which of the laws is the greatest - Jesus talks about love - loving God - and loving our neighbors.
Preparing for Worship
Sat, 10/18/2008 - 13:43 — adminI'm pleased to share with you that Nathan will be bringing the message this Sunday, as Nettie & I will be away.
So, what do we do now?
Thu, 10/09/2008 - 19:14 — adminThis Sunday, October 12th, will be the last segment of "Understanding the Will of God". There is still so much to be said, and perhaps we can revisit the topic again another time. But for now, the sermon title for part 4 - "So, what do we do now?" will take us to Matthew 25:14-30 where Jesus likens the Kingdom of Heaven to, among many things, a man who called his servants to himself and entrusted each of them varying amounts us of money. If you you know the story well - then you know the outcome as well.
